CEO , New Entrepreneurs Foundation
Neeta is the founding CEO at The New Entrepreneurs Foundation (NEF), which is a unique UK charity with a mission to develop the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders. The NEF is also home to the entrepreneurs’ think tank, The Centre for Entrepreneurs, which publishes research, develops communities and has an input into entrepreneurship policy. Under Neeta’s leadership over the last 7 years, participants of the NEF programme have launched 110 new ventures, raised £56m in investment and created 1500+ new jobs. She is passionate about encouraging bright, talented young people to become entrepreneurs, interested in the future skills agenda and actively follows technology developments.
Prior to joining NEF, Neeta worked in private equity working with technology start-ups and private investors. She has over 30 years of experience in the corporate and technology world, spanning financial services, media & publishing, education and charities.
She started her career selling the UK’s first public email services for a BT subsidiary company. She then joined DataStream International (a Reuters’ company) where she promoted digital financial information to city and financial companies. After her MBA, she joined the Insurer Legal & General where she launched their online business and was an early internet pioneer in the UK when she launched Europe’s first personal finance website in 1997, and launched several other award- winning websites for L&G. She then went on to lead ft.com, the Financial Times’s acclaimed news portal where she introduced the paid subscription scheme.
She also worked for the British Council (the UK government’s overseas cultural agency) where she led the transformation of their global web services, digitisation of libraries in 65 countries, the introduction of an enterprise-wide customer relationship management systems and knowledge management systems.
She currently mentors a number of start-ups led by young entrepreneurs and is an Entrepreneur-Mentor-In-Residence at London Business School, a board advisor for a SaaS (Software as a Service) venture and an adviser to an LBS Alumnus-led wine business. She is also a board adviser at Tech London Advocates.
Neeta was awarded a Special Merit award in the Entrepreneurs’ Champion category at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards in 2015 and was listed as one of the Maserati 100 of people helping UK entrepreneurship in 2016. In 2017, she was listed in the top 25 influencers in the UK in the Smith & Williamson list and also as one of the Top 25 Asian in Tech list published by the think tank Diversity UK. In 2018, she was listed by computing magazine as one the UK’s ‘Top 50 most influential women in UK Tech’.
Neeta holds a Masters in Chemistry from Oxford University, an MBA from Cass Business School and is a Sloan Fellow in Strategy & Leadership (MSc) from London Business School. She also attended a senior managers’ strategy and leadership programme at Harvard Business School, whilst at the FT.
